Anthropogenic climate change and ecological collapse leading to extinction is not inevitable but for us to put on the brakes, we need more than more renewables and zero new fossil fuel projects, we need to stop burning fossil fuels as soon as 2025, and stop fracking for more gas and oil that we can not afford to burn. We have to manage refrigerants now and we need to stop releasing methane and nitrous oxide. Increasingly science and our own observations over a modest life are indicating that we have to stop destroying the only habitable planet we have ever known now before it’s too late, tipping points are crossed and we’ll be powerless to stop runaway heating, food system failures, and extinction.

Drawdown Hemp
Following the methodology of Project Drawdown, where industrial hemp is listed as a coming attraction, the DrawdownHemp Team (not affiliated) is an international team of Hemp experts that has evaluated the many ways industrial hemp can be used to remove, sequester, and avoid carbon emissions while providing food, fiber, fuel, and environmental services. Hemp is also used to remove toxics and heavy metals from soil via phytoremediation and increases biodiversity. This biomass can be converted to Biochar Carbon Removal Credits as the biochar is incorporated into cement, concrete and asphalt.
The team submitted a milestone submission for the XPRIZE / Musk Foundation Carbon Removal competition. Our entry has been accepted and is under review. We determined that the fastest, most cost-effective and currently viable approach to address our climate emergency is to use regeneratively grown hemp for grain and pyrolysis feedstock to produce biochar for agricultural applications and as an engineered additive for cement concrete and asphalt.
We have recently become aware of patent pending Pyrolysis technology that may allow us to cut the capital costs and transportation expenses projected in our XPrize Milestone Submission by more than 50%.
